– CALL FOR PAPERS –
»The 2006 NAAHoLS meeting will again be held in conjunction with the Linguistic Society of America, the American Dialect Society, the Society for the Study of the Indigenous Languages of the Americas, and the Society for Pidgin and Creole Linguistics.
The meeting will take place at the Hyatt Regency in Albuquerque, New Mexico between 5-8 January, 2006. Further details about the meeting will be provided in the next newsletter (to be distributed Summer 2005).
As in the past, we invite papers relating to any aspect of the history of the language sciences. All presenters must be members of the association (contact the NAAHoLS Treasurer for details). Papers will be 20 minutes, with 10 minutes for discussion. Abstracts may be submitted as hard copies or as file attachments (MS Word only). The length of the abstract should not exceed 500 words -- a shorter (200 word) abstract will also be requested for the meeting handbook.

Symposium Peeter Heynsgenootschap , 's-Hertogenbosch (NL)
Op vrijdag 31 maart houdt het Peeter Heynsgenootschap - Geschiedenis van het talenonderwijs in de Lage Landen - voor alle praktisch en theoretisch geïnteresseerden in de geschiedenis van het talenonderwijs weer een oude vertrouwde PHG-dag, een symposium dat ditmaal plaatsvindt in 's-Hertogenbosch, waar wij tot ons genoegen te gast zullen zijn bij de alom bekende uitgeverij Malmberg. Een bezoek aan de historische collectie, een boekpresentatie en twee lezingen vormen de hoekstenen van deze ontmoeting op dit brede vakgebied. Het bestuur heet alle belangstellenden van harte welkom.

— PROGRAMMA:

10.00-10.30 u - aankomst en koffie
10.30-12.30 u - presentatie door Uitgeverij Malmberg en bezoek aan de collectie historische leerboeken in het bezit de uitgeverij, die meer dan 100 jaar oud is. (Uitgeverij Malmberg is te vinden aan de Leeghwaterlaan 16 te 's Hertogenbosch. De locatie is ideaal voor treinreizigers; zij nemen de achteruitgang van het station en lopen ongeveer 100 meter. De uitgeverij bevindt zich naast het Paleis van Justitie aan de linkerkant van de weg.)
13.00 u - Presentatie heruitgave beide grammatica's van Peeter Heyns als eerste deel van de PHG-reeks Teksten op het gebied van de geschiedenis van het talenonderwijs door dr. Els Ruijsendaal.
13.15-14.00 u - lunch
Twee lezingen (tijd inclusief discussie):
14.00 u - Adriaan van der Weel, hoogleraar te Leiden, spreekt over: Literaire schoolboeken en hun uitgevers (Kirberger en de Erven Bohn)
14.45 u - De historici André Beening en Johan Joor spreken over de aanwezigheid, het belang en de ontsluiting van de collecties school- en leerboeken in Nederland.
15.30 - 16.00 u thee en huishoudelijke vergadering
16.00 - sluiting

-- CALL FOR PAPERS -- »Van 21 tot en met 23 juni 2006 organiseren het Leidse Instituut voor Nederlandse Lexicologie (INL) en het Leiden University Centre for Linguistics (LUCL) de Third International Conference on Historical Lexicography and Lexicology (ICHLL).«

— vorgesehene Themen:

Bijdragen voor dit congres behandelen een onderwerp op het gebied van van de historiografie van de lexicografie, lexicografie van historische taalfasen en historische lexicologie. Tijdens de derde ICHLL zal speciaal aandacht besteed worden aan electronische toepassingen in deze onderzoeksgebieden. Bijdragen kunnen zich daarop richten, maar het is niet noodzakelijk. --
Key note speaker zal zijn dr. Edmund Weiner, waarnemend hoofdredacteur van de OED, die aan de wieg stond van de digitalisering van de OED en nauw betrokken was bij de voorbereidingen van de eerste cd-romuitgave.

Annual Colloquiumof the Henry Sweet Society for the History of Linguistic Ideas, Sheffield (UK)

»The 2006 Colloquium [...] will be held from Thursday 7 September to Sunday 11 September 2006 at the University of Sheffield, UK. The Leslie Seiffert Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Peter Burke, Professor of Cultural History at the University of Cambridge and author of Language and Communities in Early Modern Europe. The conference will overlap with a symposium on Linguistics and Social Theory in the USSR 1917-38. Those attending the HSS Colloquium will be welcome to enrol in this symposium and vice versa.
Accommodation and meals will be provided at Ranmoor House, a hall of residence 15-minute walk or 5-minute bus journey from the main University site. There will also be the option of staying in nearby hotel accommodation, and all the options will be indicated on the booking form, which will be available, along with further information about the conference, on the Society website in early 2006.
Papers (30 minutes, including discussion) are invited on any aspect of the history of linguistic thought or practice. Ideas for themed sessions or panel discussions are also very welcome. All proposals, including title and abstract (max. 250 words) should be sent

»Il comitato esecutivo della Società di Filosofia del Linguaggio ha dato compimento al mandato ricevuto dall'Assemblea dello scorso 30 settembre, definendo il temario:
1) l'unità del discorso e le sue parti: unità semiotica e linearizzazione, segmentazione e composizionalità logica, articolazioni e categorizzazioni linguistico-grammaticali
2) la coesione logico-linguistica: predicati insaturi, funzioni di argomenti e valori; istituzioni di riferimento e sostituzioni anaforiche e cataforiche; premesse e conclusioni, condizioni e implicazioni, espliciti e impliciti
3) la composizione enunciativo-comunicativa: cotesti e contesti, background e focus, tipologie e strategie testuali.
4) discorsi sconnessi, frammentari, evasivi, reticenti, inconcludenti: cesure, fratture, infrazioni delle compagini testuali e comunicative.
Per quanto riguarda l'organizzazione delle sessioni, il comitato ha deliberato di limitare il numero complessivo degli interventi per sessione ad un massimo di 6 (di cui due relazioni invitate e 4 comunicazioni), in modo da lasciare più spazio al dibattito.

— Termine: È quindi indetto il call for papers: termine ultimo per la presentazione delle proposte di comunicazione (2 cartelle, max 5000 battute) è il 20 Aprile 2006.

»The tercentenary of the birth of the Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus in 1707 will be commemorated by Uppsala University in many different ways. The Faculty of Languages will be celebrating the occasion by arranging a Symposium on the languages of science in the time of Linnaeus. »Wir freuen uns, Ihnen mitteilen zu können, dass die elfte Internationale Konferenz zur Geschichte der Sprachwissenschaften (International Conference on the History of Language Sciences, ICHoLS XI) vom 28. August bis 2. September 2008 an der Universität Potsdam stattfinden wird.
Die International Conference on the History of Language Sciences wird seit 1978 im dreijährigen Rhythmus durchgeführt und fand bisher in Ottawa, Lille, Princeton, Trier, Galway, Washington, Oxford, Fontenay-St. Cloud (Paris), São Paolo-Campinas und Urbana-Champaign statt. Beiträge zu allen Bereichen der Geschichte der Sprachwissenschaft sind willkommen. Neben vielfältigen Themenbereichen von der Antike bis zur Zeitgeschichte der Linguistik, von Einzelfallstudien bis zu methodologischen Überlegungen, möchten wir ihre Aufmerksamkeit auf die Beziehungen zwischen Geschichte und Methoden der heutigen Linguistik lenken. Es wird auch die Möglichkeit bestehen, computergestützte Projekte zu präsentieren. Besonders möchten wir junge Wissenschaftler ermutigen, uns zu schreiben.«
